(small) Personalized and Mighty Marketing for Local Small Businesses
Why the smallest strategies often create the biggest impact.
At the beginning of this year, I was given the opportunity to make a career change and really think about the kind of work I wanted to be doing every day. With all the experience I’d collected so far, one thing became very clear to me: I wanted to get back to supporting my community in ways that actually mattered. Not just personally, but in my work too.
I missed working closely with people. I missed helping small businesses and creators find their voice and feel proud of what they were building. That feeling is what led me to create Modern Social LLC — a place where I could combine my love for marketing with my love for community, connection, and real storytelling.
This first year has been full of learning, adapting, and showing up. And through all of it, I’ve grown not just as a business owner, but as a person. Every project and every client has reminded me why I chose this path in the first place.
Starting Small — and Strong
One of the most meaningful parts of this year has been the people I’ve had the chance to work with. Each project, big or small, came with purpose and heart. Some of the wonderful clients I’ve worked with this year include:
John Rhodes — author of The Battle of Britain series
IHRAM Press — a charity micro-press amplifying important voices
Konover Property Group — strengthening their digital presence and brand consistency
World Anemia Awareness — helping extend outreach for an important community health initiative
Hope Blooms — supporting meaningful, community-centered creative work
The Glass Leash — a small creative business bringing pet art to life
Work Smart Bookkeeping — bringing clarity and consistency to their brand and online presence
These projects remind me that when marketing is personal and rooted in who you are, it doesn’t need to be loud or complicated. It can be simple, intentional, and still incredibly powerful.
Small truly can be mighty.
What This Year Has Taught Me
Being a new business owner comes with a lot of eye-opening moments. Some were encouraging, some were humbling, and all of them helped me grow.
The bright moments
Community support has meant everything.
Every client has taught me something new.
Small steps, repeated steadily, create real growth.
The honest ones
Wearing every hat can be exhausting.
Not every idea works the first time (or the fifth), and that’s okay.
Perfection is not the goal — showing up consistently is.
If you’re a small business owner yourself, I want to say this directly:
You’re doing better than you think.
You’re building something from the ground up, and that takes courage, patience, and so much heart.
Marketing Doesn’t Have to Be Overwhelming
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned this year is that small businesses don’t need complicated strategies to make an impact. Sometimes the simplest approach — done with intention — is the most effective.
Personalized marketing is about understanding you:
your business, your message, your goals, and your voice.
When your marketing reflects who you are as a person and business, people feel that. And they show up.
A Note of Gratitude
To every client, collaborator, and supporter this year — thank you.
Thank you for trusting me.
Thank you for being open, honest, and willing to grow.
Thank you for letting me be even a small part of your story.
Being involved with organizations like the East Boston Chamber of Commerce and the Creative Collective has reinforced how powerful community can be. We lift each other higher when we support each other’s work.
