Ruby & Charlie Explore Masshole Dog Biscuit Co.: Local, Sustainable Dog Treats in Gloucester, MA
Ruby’s November Rule: Support Local, Sustainable Businesses
This November, Ruby is adding a new rule to her playbook: celebrate and support small, local businesses doing good things — especially those making treats with real ingredients. It’s not just about spoiling your pup; it’s about giving back to the community in a way that feels meaningful — and delicious.
A Thankful Pooch‑Friendly Trip to Masshole Dog Biscuit Co.
To put Ruby’s new rule into action, the Modern Social office dogs visited Masshole Dog Biscuit Co. in Gloucester, MA. The shop — celebrating its 1-year anniversary — was the perfect spot to explore, taste, and support local.
The dogs tried:
Fresh Breath Masshole Biscuits (Mint-Coconut) — lightly refreshing and hand-crafted.
Masshole Dog Biscuit Co. Fresh Breath BiscuitsTotally Hook’d One-Ingredient Minnows and Herring — single-ingredient treats, sustainable and locally sourced. Totally Hook’d Treats
These treats are made in small batches, with simple, recognizable ingredients. The pups were thrilled — tails wagging, tongues out, and eager for more. They were even willing to show off a few tricks for treats.
Why This Matters — For Us & the Community
Supporting small businesses = big impact. Visiting a local bakery helps a new business thrive.
Healthy, honest treats. Small-batch, simple ingredients are better for pups and more transparent for owners. Which is why I love them and seek them out!
Community connection. This trip wasn’t just a snack run — it was a chance to celebrate local creativity and get to know their team.
Ruby’s Rule in Action
“Support Local, Sustainable Businesses” looks like this:
Visiting local (pet) shops and celebrating milestones (like anniversaries).
Ask about ingredients or processes: where they come from and how treats are made.
Choose small-batch or single-ingredient treats when possible.
Share your experience and recommend local makers to other pup parents.
Charlie’s Adventure of the Month
Charlie had a full November adventure exploring not just Masshole Dog Biscuit Co., but several of his favorite stores in Gloucester. His day was packed with new experiences: tasting treats, greeting staff and customers with gentle kisses, patiently sitting, and even showing off his quiet voice for “speak.”
His patience and good behavior were rewarded with lots of treats and a scenic beach walk along the Gloucester coast. Along the way, he met many new people and dog friends, making it an adventure full of socializing, learning, and fun.

A Thank You from Modern Social
This month and frankly this year, I’m extra grateful — for Ruby, for Charlie, my partner, friends and family, and for the little pet businesses that make our community richer and more connected. I also want to give a heartfelt thank you to my current customers, supporters, and collaborators — working with you all allows me to do the work I love, grow together, and make meaningful connections every day. We never know the full impact our connections have on one another; the simplest interactions can have profound and lasting impact, much more than you may ever know. So thank you for being a supporter and fan of Modern Social.
Here’s to the good pups and people, and celebrating local flavor — one biscuit at a time.
